This review is the sixth in a series of 4-yearly reviews commissioned by MERGA. It provides a critical review of mathematics education research published or presented in the period 2000-2003 by Australasian mathematics education researchers or of particular relevance to Australasia. The primary purpose of this critique of the research is to highlight significant findings, demonstrate links between research, identify trends and foreshadow future research directions.
