About

Pam Schindler's poems are bright and inquisitive. They listen intently to the natural world, and gesture to the reader to come ever closer and partake in the clear song of the moment. Never shying from life's tough truths - death, loss, pain - Schindler's poems remain tender-hearted: "a sweet hard gift".

Bronwyn Lea

Pam Schindler's poetry engages with frogs and lakes and desire and constellations and loss with musical precision. She has been walking through her own Cumberland for years, delightedly recording the natural world, observing and nurturing her responses to it. And now we have this volume to fall into. At last.

After the fires, Kinglake
i.m. Barry Johnston

clouds, today
but I cannot call it gentle
sweet rain softening the hills

no rain fell for you on Saturday
only embers
and a hungry wind
Monday they found you stretched
in your fire bunker

your house was white ash by then

in my arms mostly, this ache
to hold you and hold you

fool, the house was not worth
one look from your blue eyes
