John Knight's verse and haiku have been published in a number of little journals and books in Australia and New Zealand. He is a founding member of the Brisbane haiku group, Paper Wasp, and poetry editor for Social Alternatives. In his other life he teaches teachers at the University of Queensland.

Great-Grandmother's waist
and he dropped dead at
thirty-five.Five foot nothing,
Grandmother cleared bush
from the age of thirteen.Each morning she'd go
with her father
to the thick scrub
and work till dusk.Anything was better
than that, she said
so she married Grandfather
at seventeen
and had eight children:
five of them lived...
