Reviews

In "easy with the ebb" Jean Rasey gifts us with her life work in haiku, haibun and haiga. She has to her great credit a poem Presence readers acknowledged as one of the worlds best:

night rain
I struggle deeper
Into the sound

Reading Jean's collected poetry I think of Shakespeare's "Once touch of nature makes the whole world kin". ...I found myself marking every page!

H.F."Tom" Noyes

Jean Rasey ...writes haiku of pure deliquescence... they melt in the mouth, leaving a delicate after taste of mono no aware, "an empathy to things"... There is a simplicity that skirts plainness or sentiment... Whe you read her haiku you may well find yourself holding your breath with hers...

Alan Summers — With Words

Long have I waited for sincerity. And here it is from far across the ocean, laden with the truth of why we write and why we live!

once more along the boardwalk . . .

It is our anniversary and an afternoon
drive finds us at the marina where for
many years we had our mooring. Here
we find old friends, so it's once more
along the boardwalk.

My husband has lost his short-term
memory and is not always sure of names
and faces. Today, because of familiar
surroundings he is soon engaged in
lively discussion about tides, weather,
safety gear and even bilge pumps.

We have been told his memory loss will
not improve. Sometimes deterioration
is quite marked, at other times the change
is imperceptible. This is a challenge to
both of us.

  shadows lengthening
reflections strengthening
. . . still this ebbing eventide
