Fisher King

In those quiet moments
when I sit patiently
in a wooden dingy with
a rod over the side,

and know that I will
catch a few this evening,
though the air is dark,
and the water is dark, I

feel an understanding
of the ways of God,
letting out a peaceful line
to draw us to a death

above, on a ground
we are ignorant of —
hungry mouths grasping
the flesh-baited cross.
