Ron Heard is a poet and cyclist who lives in the inner Brisbane suburb of Highgate Hill where he enjoys life amongst the heat, trees, backyard chooks and rain. His poetry is influenced by almost everything he has read, but he would like to acknowledge George Mackay Brown, Pablo Neruda and the members of his poetry group.
With Gloria Yates he co-edits The Mozzie which is a very little magazine but publishes over 600 poems a year. Bruce Dawe has called it the best poetry magazine in Australia.
This collection was shortlisted for the Thomas Shapcott Prize.

Poems of nuance and subtlety. — Thomas Shapcott
In Ron Heard's river, she-oak and wind the poet's voice lets us revisit the landscapes of life, environment and spirit to find luminous moments we might have missed without him. — Ynes Sanz
river, she-oak and wind,
breath and stillness and dream
around me as I swim
in the silky dark
and I recognise
these as themes from my life
and my often repeated words. . . sometimes there's a link –
inner and outer merge
dreams reveal the world
as she-oaks entangle the wind
